The Dr. Jasbir Singh Saini Endowed Chair in Sikh and Punjabi Studies, established in memory of the late Phoenix-based cardiologist by his family, will enable faculty and students to explore the culture, religion, history, literature, art, economics, language, politics, and scientific contributions of the Sikh people from their origins in the sixteenth-century Punjab region of India to the present.

Recent world events illustrate the need for increased understanding of Sikh values, traditions, and contributions to the world. The establishment and enhancement of the endowed chair in Sikh and Punjabi Studies is an opportunity to create a lasting program that will educate this generation and future generations of students about Sikh culture and contributions.

The Saini Endowed Chair will be a milestone for the Sikh community in the Inland region of Southern California and an acknowledgment of the growing importance of the Sikh Diaspora in this part of the state as well as other parts of the nation.
